The Scottish government aims to hold a new consultation for independence next year, on October 19, 2023.
Scotland’s nationalist leader and chief minister, Nicola Sturgeonsaid this Monday that independence is “essential” to escape “Westminster misrule” (headquarters of the British institutions in London), in his closing speech at the annual conference of the Scottish National Party (SNP).
Sturgeon, leader of the SNP, has closed the congress that the nationalists have held in the Scottish city of Aberdeen and has affirmed that Scotland “has everything necessary to be a country of independent success“.
In the speech, he has presented the current crisis as a response to the moment in which his Government intends to hold a new consultation for the independence of the region. “Why independence at a time of crisis? The answer lies in the question itself”has stated before a packed auditorium that he has cheered her on numerous occasions.
The government led by Sturgeon aspires to hold a new referendum for independence next year, the October 19, 2023presented as “essential to escape the control and misrule of Westminster”he has asserted.
The rally took place on the eve of the trial in which the British Supreme Court will determine whether the regional Parliament of Scotland is competent to legislate unilaterally on the holding a self-determination consultationbefore a hypothetical refusal of London to allow it.
The Scots spoke out in 2014and opted to remain in the United Kingdom for 55% to 45%. Today, the polls show a slight change, with more equal opinions and a divided society.
