Boluarte asked the prosecutor to dismiss the Rolex case against him

An appeal to review the deadlines and close the Rolex case against Peruvian President Dina Boluarte in order to revoke the prosecutor’s decision to extend it was presented by the head of state’s lawyer, Juan Portugal. This was stated on May 27 in an interview with Latina.

Villena decided to extend the investigation against the president for another two months. The previously defined deadline for the preliminary investigation against Boluarte expired on May 19. In this sense, the country’s prosecutor had two options. Either file a constitutional charge against the president or stop the investigation.

However, Villena opted for the third option, which was to continue the preliminary investigation against the head of state for another two months. Boluarte’s lawyer described the measure as “illegal.”

“The prosecutor made an illegal interpretation of the rules themselves and extended the investigation to eight months. What we did was file an appeal to review the deadline, I am absolutely convinced that the prosecutor will reject it, but it will be determined in court and through debate whether the prosecutor’s office will have the right to make that extension.”said the lawyer.

Let us remember that the Rolex case became the biggest scandal in Peruvian politics, in which President Dina Boluarte was involved. The case arose when journalists reported that the head of state wore at least three luxury Rolex watches during her public activities.

When explaining the origin of the jewelry, the president could not give a clear answer, so the country’s prosecutor’s office began a preliminary investigation into charges of illicit enrichment, failure to submit declarations and passive bribery to the detriment of the State. The official version is that the governor of the Ayacucho region, Wilfredo Oscorima, according to Boluarte, gave him an expensive watch on loan.
