Belgium will provide Ukraine with 30 F-16 fighter jets by 2028, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Tuesday after signing a bilateral security agreement with Belgian Prime Minister Alexander De Croo.
“Today [esta terça-feira] In Brussels, Prime Minister De Croo and I signed a bilateral long-term agreement on security and support between Ukraine and Belgium. The document includes at least 977 million euros of military support from Belgium this year, as well as Belgium’s commitment to provide assistance to our country throughout the 10 years of the agreement,” wrote Vladimir Zelensky on the social network X (formerly Twitter) after receiving the head of government .
The Ukrainian President also announced a decision unprecedented for Belgium: “For the first time, an agreement of this type specifies the exact number of F-16 fighters – 30 – that will be sent to Ukraine by 2028, with the first arriving later this year.”
