A Hong Kong court on Thursday found 14 pro-democracy activists guilty of subversion for holding unofficial primaries in 2020 to select opposition candidates for the semi-autonomous Chinese region’s parliament.
Those found guilty include former MPs Leung Kwok-hung (a former Marxist known as “Long Hair”), Lam Cheuk-ting, Helena Wong Pik-wan and Raymond Chan Chi-chuen, and journalist Gwyneth Ho Kwai-lam .
However, three judges appointed by the Hong Kong government to hear cases related to the national security law acquitted former district councilors Lee Yue-shun and Lawrence Lau Wai-chung of “conspiracy to overthrow government authority.”
