The former commander of the US Navy in Europe and Africa, the former head of the NATO Allied Command in Naples, Admiral Robert Burke, was detained on suspicion of bribery, the press service of the Justice Department of USA.
“A retired Navy admiral and two businessmen were arrested today on criminal charges related to their role in a corruption scheme that included a government contract.”the message said.
It was noted that the investigation is being carried out by the Naval Criminal Investigative Service and the FBI and the Criminal Investigation Division of the Office of the Inspector General of the United States Department of Defense.
It is clarified that, according to the investigation, Robert Burke supervised naval operations in Europe and Africa in 2020-2022 and entered into an illegal contract with one of the companies to subsequently obtain a position in it.
It is noted that if the court finds Burke guilty, he faces up to 30 years in prison. His accomplices face up to 20 years in prison.
