Nigel Farage, a candidate in the UK legislative election for the right-wing British Reform Party on July 4, was hit with a soft drink outside a bar on Tuesday, the first day of his election campaign, in Clacton-on-Sea.
Police said they had arrested a 25-year-old woman on suspicion of assault. Home Secretary James Cleverley condemned the incident as unacceptable.
The politician caused shock when he said he would lead reformists and stand in elections, a blow to Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, whose Conservative Party is lagging far behind Labor in the polls.
Nigel is best known for helping lead the successful campaign for Britain to leave the European Union in 2016, and his popularity has led a number of Conservative leaders to crack down on immigration.
