The European Commission has proposed granting Bosnia Herzegovina the status of a candidate to join the European Union, a decision that responds to the request of European leaders last June but that Brussels conditions the fulfillment of far-reaching reforms in justice and the fight against corruption .

“We propose granting candidate status to Bosnia Herzegovina. We have also recognized Georgia’s European perspective,” said the President of the Community Executive, Ursula von der Leyen, in a speech at the Conference of EU Ambassadors.

Von der Leyen has assured that “the wind of change is blowing through Europe again”, as it did in the 1970s “when Spain, Portugal and Greece” chose democracy, and has opted to demonstrate to the western Balkans the support of the EU.
