A powerful explosion occurred in Antwerp, killing one person and injuring five, the Antwerp fire brigade reported, The Brussels Times reported on June 13.
On June 13, early in the morning, an explosion occurred on Sint-Bernardsestenweg in Antwerp, destroying part of a residential building. By approximately 7:30 a.m., emergency services had already pulled several victims from the rubble and taken them to medical services.
“Unfortunately, at least six people were injured.”, the firefighters said. Later that morning, police confirmed that one person had died. Three more were seriously injured and the remaining two suffered minor injuries.
“We continue searching”– said the rescuers. The fire department is securing the building and searching outside for possible victims using a forklift.
People who were around the damaged building were evacuated. The explosion may have occurred due to a gas leak, but the exact cause is still unclear.
