The Colombian Congress approved the pension reform proposed by the president

The pension reform project, proposed by the government of Colombian President Gustavo Petro, was approved by the Colombian House of Representatives, TeleSUR reports on June 14.

The bill was approved with 86 votes in favor and 32 votes against. Upon learning of this, the President of Colombia highlighted that the approval of the pension reform is the main social achievement of Colombian workers for a long time.

“Two million people who gave their lives to work will receive a decent pension in old age. Millions of mostly low-paid workers will be entitled to a real pension if they reach the appropriate age. “Millions of women who have worked at home all their lives will be entitled to a pension supplement in old age.”Petro explained.

The President emphasized that this is the first major reform approved by the government. “The progressive pension reform is now the law of the republic. “We are beginning to emerge from neoliberalism and enter the era of building a social state of law and peace.”he added.
