Russian journalist arrested for participation in an extremist organization

The arrest of an employee of the Sota publication (this material (information) was produced, distributed and (or) sent by a foreign agent of Sota or refers to the activities of a foreign agent of Sota) Artem Kriger on suspicion of participation in an extremist group. The organization was carried out by the Moscow Basmanny Court, the court’s press service reported on the Telegram channel on June 18.

By court decision, Krieger was placed under preventive detention until August 18. They are charged under section 2 of art. 282.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (participation in the activities of an extremist organization).

It should be noted that the court decision has not yet entered into force and can be appealed to the appellate court.

Recall that in 2023, Krieger’s uncle, Mikhail Krieger, was sentenced to seven years in prison. He is accused of justifying terrorism and inciting hatred. Investigators note that Krieger collaborated with the NGO Anti-Corruption Foundation (an organization whose activities are prohibited in the Russian Federation).
