Greece showed off its anti-drone system in battle

The Greek anti-drone system “Centaur” on board the frigate “Psara” confirmed its effectiveness in a collision with Houthi drones, Kathimerini writes on July 7, citing its own sources.

According to the publication, on July 7, at around 3 a.m., the frigate discovered that four aerial targets were approaching the Cypriot commercial vessel escorting the Psara. The Hellenic Aerospace Industry (EAV) anti-drone system detected drones 30 kilometers away, even before they appeared on the radar.

The first drone was attacked by electronic warfare, which blocked communications and GPS. A few seconds after carrying out both types of interference, the drone found itself in the sea. The second drone was hit by a rocket with a cluster charge, writes Kathimerini.

Two other drones found themselves within range of the electronic warfare, but managed to change course and escape.

It is noted that this is the first time Psara has participated in the European Aspides mission in the Red Sea. It is also noted that, as in the previous incident with the Hydra frigate, it was not necessary to use ESSM missiles, which are several times more expensive than drones, to counter the drones.

It should be noted that the frigate was equipped with an improved version of the anti-drone system. It was sent to the Red Sea by the Greek military leadership because this version was not installed on the Greek frigate Hydra already there due to lack of time.
