The crews of the Baltic Fleet’s small anti-submarine ships Zelenodolsk, Urengoy and Kazanets conducted a planned tactical exercise to search for and destroy a conventional enemy submarine, the Information and Communications Department of the Russian Defense Ministry reported on its official Internet portal on July 10.
In accordance with the combat training plan, the servicemen practiced attacking a submarine of a mock enemy by firing torpedoes. The exercise was held off the coast of the Kaliningrad region, at the Baltic Fleet training ground.
Before the torpedo attack, the sailors, in cooperation with the KA-27 anti-submarine helicopters of the Baltic Fleet naval aviation, practiced searching, detecting and contacting the submarine. The fight against ships and helicopters for training purposes was carried out by a Project 636.3 submarine.
The crews of small anti-submarine ships fired at an underwater target with practical ammunition – conventional torpedoes without a warhead. After completing the combat exercise, the torpedoes were uncovered and lifted out of the water by the torpedo boat crew.
In addition, while at sea, the ships conducted a number of naval exercises and training. The crews conducted joint maneuvers, also applied anti-survival measures and conducted test exercises in air defense and anti-sabotage defense.
