Hundreds of PC and IP workers demand government end inequality between companies

Hundreds of CP and IP workers met this Thursday in a plenary session in Lisbon, where they approved a resolution submitted to the government calling for an end to the inequality between the two companies and the hiring of more workers.

The coordinator of the Federation of Transport and Communications Trade Unions (Fectrans), José Manuel Oliveira, told Lucé that the initiative brought together between 400 and 500 workers from CP – Comboios de Portugal and Infraestruturas de Portugal (IP) at the Entrecampos station, who approved a resolution demanding “the government to accept more workers and fight the inequalities that currently exist between workers in these companies.”

For Fectrans, CP and IP “must be considered as a single entity, as all categories are necessary” for the CP to operate.

The resolution was then forwarded to the Ministry of Infrastructure.

José Manuel Oliveira also accused the CP of “illegally” creating difficulties for workers to participate in the plenary session by threatening them with an unjustified absence, since they would have to travel from other parts of the country to Lisbon.

Fectrans guaranteed that the company’s position “will be answered from a legal point of view.”

Lusa asked the company questions about this, but has not yet received an answer.

The plenary session this Thursday was convened by the working committees (WC) of the KP and IP, as well as several trade union organizations.

In addition to this initiative, a group of unions sent CP a notice of strike action on the 22nd and 24th of this month.

In its statement, Fectrans found it “unacceptable” that after the administration said it would extend the agreement with another organisation to all workers, “it now wants to make this conditional on the acceptance of its proposal for a Career Regulation that increases the versatility of functions and does not take into account the salary scale, a strategic measure to recruit new workers and retain current ones.”
