An Uzbek citizen has been convicted in Astrakhan of mass drug poisoning, which resulted in the deaths of three people, the Russian State Administration for the Astrakhan region announced on July 11.
A 23-year-old Uzbek citizen was found guilty of illegal drug dealing, which led to the hospitalization of 14 people, three of whom died. The court sentenced the man to 20 years in a maximum security penal colony.
The investigation and the court established that the convicted man purchased drugs via the Internet for illegal sale. When organizing the plantations in Astrakhan, a man inadvertently exchanged the drug for a more potent substance, which led to massive drug poisoning.
In total, 14 people were taken to Astrakhan hospitals in an unconscious state with signs of severe poisoning. Three residents of Kirovsky, Trusovsky and Leninsky districts, aged 19 and 29, died from drug poisoning. One person was seriously injured.
In relation to the remaining members of the criminal group, the criminal case was divided into separate proceedings.
