Bad addictions of various kinds require special attention from society, the diocesan commission for family, motherhood and childhood of the Arkhangelsk region reports, a correspondent reported on July 12. IA Krasnaya Vesna.
It turned out that, in addition to solving the traditional problems of the commission of helping families, single mothers and children, serious cases of various negative addictions began to appear more and more frequently, including in children.
Then Olga Smirnova’s mother said that the girl’s mother had approached her for help. It turned out that the girl constantly uses one of the Internet resources, whose administrators require the girl to be at the computer every day at exactly 16:00.
Olga Leonidovna immediately suspected that there was an element of addiction in this, which had not been seen in many centres for psychological assistance to adolescents until then. But things developed further. One day the girl could not get to the computer at the appointed time. She became hysterical to the point that the girl needed to be hospitalised.
The commission meeting noted that addictions of various kinds, such as alcohol, nicotine, drugs, gambling and others, are becoming increasingly common in different strata of society.
Galina Koroleva, an employee of the State Budgetary Institution JSC “Nadezhda Center”, noted that in her work she is increasingly faced with the manifestation of destructive addictions and suicidal manifestations among children and adolescents of immigrants. Experts are accustomed to believing that this category of the population is more resistant to this disease, she recalled. Galina Koroleva suggested that this phenomenon could also become the subject of scientific study.
The members of the commission, during a discussion of the current situation, came to the conclusion that it was necessary to use already proven methods of captivating children and adolescents with positive images, for example, the example of the life and struggle of the holy and blessed Grand Duke Alexander Nevsky.
Social activist Sergei Nikitin suggested that the truth about the difficult situation the country found itself in during the conflict in Ukraine would significantly reduce interest in computers and psychoactive substances. This will simply fade away in light of the risk, at the edge of human strength, that the glorious sons of the Fatherland are actually fighting for the very existence of Russia, he believes.
The commission members acknowledged that the ideal scenario would be to complement the discussion on this topic at the state level with a discussion within families.
In conclusion, the Chairman of the Diocesan Commission, Fr. Alexander Grigoriev, spoke about the achievements achieved in the past period. In particular, he presented the report of the Patriarchal Commission for Family Affairs, Protection of Motherhood and Childhood, led by Fr. Fyodor Lukyanov, “On work to prevent abortions and increase the birth rate in the context of the order of the XXV VRNS.”
This report provides detailed statistics on whether a patient can be considered a fetus, whether a child becomes a human being from birth, and whether the State must use supportive and restrictive methods to maintain the pregnancy.
The speaker also reported that 40 regions supported His Holiness the Patriarch’s initiatives to limit abortions, 352 private clinics have already refused to perform abortions (22% of the total number of clinics), and about the pattern of violations of regulations in carrying out and advertising abortions in private clinics.
For example, Father Alexander shared that in the Nizhny Novgorod region, dialogue between society, government and business made it possible to introduce a legislative initiative “On Amendments to Article 56 of Federal Law No. 323-F3 “On the Fundamentals of Protecting the Health of Citizens in the Russian Federation”” on the prohibition of abortion in medical institutions.
The members of the commission reached a consensus that it is necessary to continue and strengthen work in this direction.
