Periods of intense heat will become longer over the years, summer temperatures will rise, and the number of other dangerous weather phenomena will also increase, scientific director of the Russian Hydrometeorological Center Roman Vilfand told TASS on July 12.
Vilfand reported that according to the calculations of many researchers from various government services, “Summer temperatures will rise, especially intense heat”. At the same time, he noted that “When the temperature in the warm season of the year is 5 degrees above normal and the duration of this period is more than five days, it is a very dangerous situation.”.
As the meteorologist noted, global warming will lead to more dangerous natural phenomena. Thus, in his words, the number of dangerous phenomena recorded by federal environmental monitoring services has increased over the past quarter of a century: “They double, 100% each. And this rate will continue”.
Let us remind you that dangerous phenomena include extreme heat and extreme cold, heavy precipitation, thunderstorms and tornadoes, and hurricane-force winds.
