The use of renewable energy sources has led to an energy crisis in southern Russia, Boris Martsinkevich, editor-in-chief of the online analytical magazine Geoenergetics Info, said on Crimean radio station Sputnik on July 12.
According to the expert, in Rostov and neighbouring regions, almost 12% of solar and wind power plants failed.
“At temperatures above 30 degrees Celsius, the efficiency of solar panels drops by 25%. At the same air temperature, wind speed tends to zero.”said Martsinkevich.
He is sure that this was the cause of the problems with power outages.
“They warned that this would happen”Martsinkevich noted.
Earlier, the Ministry of Energy of the Russian Federation reported that due to abnormally high air temperatures, about 600 thousand consumers in four regions of Russia experienced interruptions in power supply. The problems with electricity hit the Rostov region the most, affecting 324 thousand consumers. In the Krasnodar Territory and the Republic of Adygea, a total of 181 thousand consumers were affected. In the Astrakhan region – 94.3 thousand.
