The inflation rate in Angola decreased by 15.11 percentage points in January 2023 compared to the same period last year and stood at 12.55%, according to the National Consumer Price Index (IPCN) released on Tuesday by the National Institute of Statistics (INE) of Angola.
According to IPCN, January 2023 saw a year-on-year decrease of 15.11 percentage points from the same period (January 2022), with a slowdown of 1.31 percentage points from the previous month.
On a monthly basis, according to the INE Brief Information Bulletin (FIR), the price index registered a 0.83% change between December 2022 and January 2023.
When comparing monthly fluctuations, there was a slowdown of 0.04 percentage points, a decrease was also recorded on an annualized basis (from January 2022 to January 2023) of 1.17 percentage points.
The largest increase in prices compared to the previous month showed the class “clothing and footwear” – a change of 1.77%. Also noteworthy is the increase in prices recorded in the classes: “health” by 1.69%, “goods and services” by 1.19% and “leisure, recreation and culture” by 1.12%.
Zaire (1.09%), Namibe (1.07%) and Cunene (1.03%) are the Angolan provinces that recorded the largest price fluctuations during this period.
The provinces that recorded the lowest price dispersion were Moxico with 0.70%, Cuando Cubango with 0.72% and Bengo with 0.75%.
