Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu promised a “tough response” from Israel on Monday to the Hezbollah attack that killed 12 children and teenagers in the Golan Heights over the weekend. “The State of Israel cannot leave this attack unanswered. Our response will come and it will be tough,” the prime minister assured, hours after the Israeli military cabinet gave the executive branch the green light to respond “appropriately” to the Hezbollah attack. An Israeli government source told Reuters on Monday that Israel wants to “damage” Hezbollah, but without provoking an open war. “That is not in our interests at this stage,” the source admitted. Yedioth Ahronoth speaks of a “limited but significant” response. Fearing an imminent escalation of the situation, several international airlines, including Air France and Lufthansa, have announced they will suspend flights to Beirut in the coming days.
