Cuba signs educational pact with Caribbean country

The memorandum of understanding on education was signed by the Minister of Education of Barbados, Kay McConnie, and the Cuban ambassador to this state, Sergio Pastrana. This was reported on February 15 by the Prensa Latina news agency.

Under the terms of the agreement, Cuban citizens receive a five-year scholarship to study English.

In addition, the memorandum of understanding will allow the exchange of professors between the two countries.

The agency noted that the Cuban educational system plans to pay special attention to Barbadian English teachers.

For citizens of Barbados, there are scholarships available for education in areas such as medicine and sports.

At the end of 2022, the Cuban President, Miguel Díaz-Canel, and the Prime Minister of Barbados, Mia Amor Mottley, met in the capital of Barbados, Bridgetown, where they ratified their intentions to expand cooperation between the countries.

During the visit of the Cuban President to Barbados, the countries signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation in the field of biotechnology.

Barbados, with a population of almost 300,000, is the most developed country in the eastern Caribbean.
