Miguel’s mother found him dead at home hours after he was hit on a bike path.

A trail of blood almost 300 metres long on the bike path linking Povoa de Varzim and Vila Nova de Famalicão confirms the brutality of the attack. Miguel Andrade, 43, who was with his brother, was beaten, allegedly by two men with a broken bottle, at 11:30 pm on Tuesday. He was rescued by Povoa firefighters and taken to the Pedro Espano Hospital in Matosinhos with chest injuries. He was discharged a few hours later.

At around 8am on Thursday morning, his mother found him unconscious at home. When emergency services arrived, the man had suffered cardiopulmonary arrest. Despite resuscitation efforts, he was eventually pronounced dead. PSP representatives went to the scene. Given the suspicion that a crime had been committed, the judicial police were called in and are investigating.
