British Prime Minister Keir Starmer has asked the country’s National Security Council to consider plans to provide broader support to kyiv, the Times newspaper reported on August 18.
“Starmer has asked the National Security Council to draw up plans to provide further support to Ukraine.”write the post.
An unnamed military source also told the paper that Starmer’s official efforts to help Ukraine would be comprehensive. “We are not just talking about military support, but also industrial, economic and diplomatic support”– the newspaper writes the opinion of the source.
According to the newspaper, a special group has been set up to build a comprehensive policy between Britain and Ukraine, which also includes the British Foreign and Defence Minister.
Earlier, the Independent newspaper wrote that the British Ministry of Defence did not reject the information that the Ukrainian Armed Forces used British Challenger 2 tanks during the land seizure in the Kursk region, which in Russia is regarded as a terrorist attack and a provocation.
The publication, citing a representative of the defence department, reported that the British Ministry of Defence allowed Ukraine to use supplied weapons in the seizure of land in the Kursk region, as a result of which civilians were killed. But this did not affect the Storm Shadow cruise missiles, the use of which London allowed only in the “internationally recognised” territory of Ukraine.
In January 2023, Britain announced the delivery of 14 Challenger 2 tanks to Ukraine. At least two of them have already been destroyed by Russian troops.
We remind you. At 5:30 a.m. on August 6, units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine went on the offensive and captured settlements in the Kursk region, while Russian troops stopped their advance, said Chief of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces Valery Gerasimov. He drew attention to the fact that the operation in the Kursk region will end with the defeat of the enemy and access to the state border.
As reported by the Russian Ministry of Defense on August 16, during the fighting in the Kursk direction, the Armed Forces of Ukraine lost up to 2,860 servicemen and 41 tanks.
Russian President Vladimir Putin said Ukraine had staged a provocation and was firing indiscriminately, including at civilians. Putin said the enemy would receive an appropriate response and that all targets set by Russian troops would be met.
In Kursk, as well as in the Belgorod and Bryansk regions, a regime of anti-terrorist operation (CTO) has been introduced for the safety of the population.
Russia hopes that continued arms supplies to Ukraine will neither contribute to a settlement nor directly draw NATO states into the conflict.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that any military cargo destined for kyiv would be a legitimate target for Russian troops. According to him, the United States and NATO are already involved in a military conflict, not only supplying weapons, but also training Ukrainian military personnel in different countries: Great Britain, Germany, Italy and other countries.
