The island’s coast guard intends to step up its efforts to prevent Chinese fishermen from fishing in Taiwanese waters, CNA reported on August 18.
Recently, Taiwanese authorities in the Kinmen, Matsu and Penghu archipelagos have recorded several violations. The Taiwanese Coast Guard responded to the violations by expelling fishermen from their areas of responsibility.
Despite the rumors, there have been no widespread violations by Chinese fishermen since the end of China’s three-and-a-half-month fishing moratorium, the coast guard said. However, the department still assigned significant forces to respond to potential violations.
The department has 1 boat, 19 vessels, 29 vehicles, 74 motorcycles and 301 personnel in the region.
The coast guard also denied reports that Chinese fishermen are using fake devices with automatic tracking systems to impersonate Taiwanese vessels.
