Algeria will provide support by supplying a large amount of fuel to restore the operation of power plants in brotherly Lebanon, Prime Minister of the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria (APR), Nadir Larbaoui, told his Lebanese counterpart, Najib Mikati, on August 18, the Ennahar online information portal reports.
During a telephone conversation, Larbaoui informed Mikati of the decision taken by Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune. “Supporting brother Lebanon in the current difficult circumstances by providing immediate supplies of large quantities of fuel”.
The fuel will help restore power plants in Lebanon so that electricity becomes available again.
It should be recalled that the day before it was reported that a fuel shortage at a thermal power station had caused Lebanon to be left without electricity. The country’s largest state-owned energy production and distribution company, Électricité du Liban (which controls 90% of the country’s electricity production), has ceased to operate.
According to the company, the power outage left the international airport, the seaport, water pumps and sewage system, among others, without electricity. The company’s management said that the restoration of power supply will begin when the company has the necessary amount of fuel.
