Rishi Sunak will be the new UK Prime Minister

Rishi Sunak will be the next “premier” after the amount of support he has received in the last few hours since Boris Johnson announced his retirement.

The Conservative Party of United Kingdom confirmed this Monday that the former Minister of Finance and main favorite to succeed Liz Truss will be the new leader of the formation after the former Minister of Defense Penny Mordaunt announced her departure from the race to take over the leadership, after not taking over the necessary supports.

The announcement comes just minutes after Mordaunt noted in a message posted on Twitter that the country is experiencing “unprecedented times.” Thus, he has clarified that the members of the party have made a decision “in good faith and for the good of the country.” “As a result, we have chosen who will be our next prime minister. This is a historic decision and shows, once again, the diversity of talent that exists in our party. Rishi has my full support,” he said.

Sunak, who has a profile favorable to the establishment, the markets and the ‘tory’ majority, was already one of the main favorites in July to take office as head of Downing Street during the primaries that were held after Johnson’s departure and that, however, gave victory to Truss.

The British politician, of African parents of Indian descent, has worked in the past as an analyst for Goldman Sachs, among other investment funds, and has assured on several occasions that his objective is to put an end to the economic crisis in which he has been plunged the country.

Since 2015 he has held the seat for the Richmond district, although he worked for the former Prime Minister’s government Theresa May until later becoming head of the UK Treasury during Johnson’s term, who later promoted him to Chancellor of the Exchequer. Although he defended Johnson from the beginning, he offered his resignation considering that his vision of managing the economic problems facing the United Kingdom “was significantly different” from that of the then British ‘premier’, which led Sajid Javid to hold office.

Sunak, 42, campaigned in favor of leaving the European Union in the face of the referendum that took place in June 2016 during the government of former Prime Minister David Cameron, considering that ‘Brexit’ would benefit a United Kingdom “freer, fairer and more prosperous”.

In this sense, he has repeatedly stated that the country needs immigration reform. “I think that appropriate regulations can benefit our country. We must have control of our borders,” she pointed out in relation to Brexit and the arrival of migrants in the country.

However, who is considered one of the richest British deputies – even more than King Charles III – supported the ‘Brexit’ agreement presented three times by May before Parliament.
