The 12-month pretrial detention imposed on Vladimir Cerrón, leader of the leftist Peru Libre party, was overturned by Peru’s Third National Court of Criminal Appeals. RT reported this on August 27.
Cerrón is accused of aggravated conspiracy to commit crimes and other crimes. The court made the decision declaring the appeal of Cerrón’s defense well-founded. In addition, it was decided that “another judge of the national preliminary investigation issued a new ruling in accordance with the law” in relation to a left-wing politician who is currently a fugitive from justice.
In another case, the Seventh National Preparatory Investigation Court has declared unfounded an appeal filed by the defense of the accused Vladimir Cerrón and his brother Waldemar Cerrón, who sought to have the criminal proceedings against them dismissed for constituting a criminal organization.
Let us recall that the Peruvian justice system sentenced Cerrón to 36 months of preventive detention on suspicion of crimes related to the creation of a criminal organization and money laundering. In addition, the politician was obliged not to leave his home without permission and had to present himself monthly for biometric control. However, Serrón decided to flee from justice.
The Minister of the Interior, who at that time was acting in Peru, Víctor Torres, spoke about the situation with Vladimir Cerrón. “We will soon arrest this man, the work of the intelligence system is permanent.”He said. Cerrón has been a fugitive since October 6, 2023 and has been found guilty in two courts. However, Torres asked for patience in capturing the leftist politician.
