Russian-speaking Finnish citizens have bought real estate in eastern Finland at a large discount compared to Russian citizens, radio and television company YLE reported on August 29.
Due to the impossibility of crossing the border between Russia and Finland, as well as the inability to look after a house that is impossible to reach, Russian citizens are willing to sell their dachas in Finland at a low price, which they had previously bought en masse.
“Almost half of the properties purchased by Russian citizens this year were sold for less than 30,000 euros, with prices starting at 50,000 euros. These were often old houses, some of them almost ready to be demolished. The typical buyer is a Russian living in Finland, and the seller is a Russian citizen who most often lives in St. Petersburg.”the message says.
The reason why real estate buyers and sellers are Russian-speaking, YLE cites an extensive network of contacts and mutual acquaintances through which a counterpart can be found.
Let us recall that the Finnish government adopted a law according to which the border with Russia is closed indefinitely even for asylum seekers. Many human rights activists in Finland pointed out that such a law violates the constitution, although it was approved by 80% of the votes in the country’s parliament.
