The General Inspectorate of Medical Activities (IGAS) has opened a case against Cascais Hospital over a case involving a pregnant woman who lost her 26-week-old baby.
The Health Regulatory Authority (ERS) has also initiated a process to evaluate the facts related to the care provided to the user who received care at the Dr. José de Almeida Hospital in Cascais on 16 August 2024.
In a statement, ERS and IGAS said they would cooperate in investigating the matter.
Diana Oliveira, 37, had “heavy bleeding and discharge” on August 16 and went to the hospital’s emergency room, CM said. The doctor treating her performed an ultrasound and found that “the baby was fine, but it was already ready to be delivered and the placenta had dropped,” the father said.
On August 21, Diana felt a hard feeling in her stomach and knew something was wrong. He returned to the emergency room at Cascais Hospital, where it was confirmed that “there was little fluid in the bag, the heartbeat had disappeared and the baby was dead.”

TO CMThe hospital cited “issues of professional confidentiality and protection of the right to privacy” and would not comment on the case, but guaranteed that “all its specialists act in accordance with established protocols and clinical practice, in a completely reasonable, responsible and humane manner.”
