China on Wednesday criticized a visit to Taiwan by a senior Pentagon official and confirmed that it had sanctioned Lockheed Martin and Raytheon for supplying defense equipment to Taipei.
When asked about the visit of US Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for China Michael Chase, Taiwan State Council Office spokesman Zhu Fenglian said Beijing “strongly opposes any formal interaction and military cooperation” between the US and Taiwan.
Efforts by Taiwan’s ruling Democratic Progressive Party to strengthen the island’s independence with foreign aid are “doomed to fail,” Zhu said.
