A man suspected of killing another in August 2022 in the municipality of Leiria has been charged by the Public Prosecutor’s Office (MP) with simple murder, according to a prosecutor’s order seen by the Luz agency this Wednesday.
According to the document, the victim, a 55-year-old man, was in a relationship with a woman, a couple living in the courts, in a room rented by the defendant, who lived in the same house.
The document alleges that between the end of July 2022 and the beginning of August, the victim made several visits to the residence, in one of which the two men fell out.
On the night of August 5-6, the 64-year-old defendant decided to track down the possible arrival of the man, “to confront him, including physically” in order to dissuade him from returning to the house.
According to the indictment, the victim went to this house, “scattering gravel on the porch of the same house, after which he went out onto a public road.”
The defendant, seeing the situation, turned to the victim, who ran towards the road.
Armed with a 1.2 meter long metal tube from a vacuum cleaner, the suspect quickly reached the woman, who had mobility problems.
The two men got into a fight, during which the defendant delivered at least two strong blows with a metal tube to the victim’s head, who fell to the ground “with profuse bleeding from the head area”.
The deputy reports that the defendant lay on top of the victim and pressed her chest with a metal tube, despite the request to let her go until she became lifeless.
Only a few moments later, and only at the insistence of third parties, who had meanwhile left for the scene, did the defendant get down from the victim, whose death was pronounced on the spot at 01:23 on August 6.
The deputy believes in the final dispatch in January that the defendant acted to end the life of the victim, who died of asphyxiation, accusing him of committing the crime of simple murder, for which he faces imprisonment. between the ages of eight and 16.
