According to US media, the attacker yelled “where’s Nancy?”after entering the house.
Nancy Pelosi’s spokesman, Drew Hammill, has confirmed the event in a statement, explaining that the individual has entered the house and “violently” attacked Paul Pelosi, who has been taken to the hospital to be treated and is expected to recover “fully” from this aggression.
The detainee is a 42-year-old man, who is in police custody and who has also received medical attention, according to the San Francisco Police Chief, William Scott, at a press conference. The arrested person will be transferred to jail, and will be charged with attempted murder with a weapon and assault, among other crimes.
The police chief has indicated that the investigation is still open, and that the reason for the raid is unknown at the moment.
