Little Gabriel is dead. A two-year-old boy who suffered from spinal muscular atrophy type 1 died on Friday morning. Gabriel had severe breathing problems and had not been able to swallow since he was two and a half months old. At the time, the family lived in France, but after they were diagnosed with the disease, they returned to live in Penafiel. Over the past two years, Gabriel’s parents have multiplied requests for help on social media to pay for treatment and even take Zolgensma – considered one of the most expensive drugs in the world – which he received in March 2021. All news about the boy’s health was shared on the Facebook page “Gabriel is a part of me.” This Friday, dozens of people took to social media to express their pain over the death of a child.
