The PSP was involved in an international counterterrorism operation promoted by Europol, during which 120 materials in five languages were uncovered on Monday from networks supporting terrorism, including jihadists of various lines and organizations.
The PSP said in a statement that data from an international operation to track the dissemination of information on high-risk chemicals has led to the launch of protocols with “online service” providers to ensure that content is quickly removed and research into their origins begins.
The conclusions of the February 21 operation involving 17 countries will contribute, according to the PSP, “to the analysis of the current threat scenario from high-risk chemicals, which is part of the ongoing impact assessment.” European Commission”.
The purpose of the operation was to restrict access to online instructions/information on how to use high-risk chemicals in terrorist attacks.
The PSP explains that, with the help of the Departments of Weapons and Explosives (DAE) and the Criminal Investigation/Cyber Crime Department, as well as the Special Police Unit/Bomb Disposal and Underground Security Center, “systematic analysis of the “clean” and “dark web” (the so-called “clean network” is the Internet for public and general use, and “darknet” is a part of the Internet that operates on the basis of anonymity of users and obscuring communication channels, used for covert or illegal purposes) to identify and promote the removal of content about the use of high-risk chemicals and toxic gases resulting from their use, both on “websites” and “online forums”.
The participation of Portugal in this operation was ensured by the PSP as a national authority with special powers in the field of licensing, control and supervision of the production, storage, sale, use and transport of weapons, ammunition, explosives, etc. (which do not belong to or are not intended for the Armed Forces), the Armed Forces and other law enforcement agencies and services), also reported to the police.
