Normal river traffic between Barreiro and Lisbon will be restored on Wednesday after two months of restrictions due to an accident with one of the ships, Transtejo / Soflusa said on Tuesday.
The service has been limited since January 4, when the passenger ship Soflusa “Gil Vicente”, which operates a river service between Barreiro in the Setúbal region and Terreiro do Paso in Lisbon, collided with the Maritime Police vessel.
After the accident, a marine accident investigation was launched to determine the causes.
According to the company, given the temporary stay of the vessel, the supply of transport on weekdays has slightly decreased, and it was not possible to guarantee the implementation of all planned routes during the morning and afternoon peak periods.
However, the company notes that since January 1, a new capacity has come into force, allowing to carry more than 100 passengers on each trip.
“This measure helps to minimize the impact of alleged service outages, which have been brought to the attention of the public, officials and competent authorities through the usual channels of communication,” he emphasizes.
Transtejo is responsible for connecting Seixal, Montijo, Cacilhas and Trafaria/Porto Brandão in the Setúbal area to Lisbon, while Soflusa handles the connection between Barreiro, also in the Setúbal area, and Terreiro do Paço, in Lisbon.
The companies have a common administration.
