Chinese Embassy Chargé d’Affaires Xu Kun and Dr. Jerry F. Brown, Executive Director of John F. Kennedy Liberia Medical Center (JFKMC), signed a cooperation agreement between China and Liberia on March 6 reports The New Dawn Liberia.
The signed agreement is part of the assistance that China intends to provide to Africa. For example, during a speech, Chargé d’Affaires ai Kun said that President Xi Jinping announced at the virtual opening event of the 73rd World Health Assembly on May 18, 2020, that China will establish a cooperation mechanism for its medical institutions, along with thirty African hospitals. .
According to the Chargé d’Affaires of the Chinese Embassy, the China-Africa Cooperation Project aims to help the continent improve its readiness to combat diseases.
During the signing meeting, the Chinese Embassy donated 2 respirators, 16 oxygen masks, 240 boxes of antimalarial medicines and 1,200 surgical masks to Kennedy Hospital.
Norwu G. Howard, Under Secretary for Administration of the Liberian Ministry of Health, also spoke at the event. Relations between the two countries have spanned many years, he said, and the focus on health care will inevitably affect the lives of many Liberians.
In turn, the executive director of JFKMC expressed his gratitude to the PRC for helping Liberia in the field of medical care and announced his intention to establish friendly relations with one of China’s provincial hospitals.
Let’s remember that Liberia is the poorest country in West Africa with a high unemployment rate (85% of the population) and a low standard of living. The lack of an adequate level of medical care in the country causes high mortality.
