An unreliable vessel with 47 migrants on board is struggling several kilometers off the coast of Libya, the alarm phone NGO warned on Twitter this Sunday.
“More than 24 hours after our initial alert to the authorities, the migrants are exhausted and still at sea, battling wind and adverse weather conditions. We ask the authorities to coordinate the rescue operation as soon as possible and get people to a safe place in Italy,” wrote Alarm Phone, a non-governmental organization created by a network of activists to alert rescuers at sea.
They insisted that the ship had been drifting since Saturday due to high waves in the central Mediterranean.
