The grandfather who stabbed his granddaughter to death in Vialonga on Tuesday left two notes before committing the crime. The man claimed that his daughter wanted to take his granddaughter away from him and that he could not live without a girl.
The elderly man also said that he had lost his Social Security pension and would not be able to help the family.
The crime took place in the living room of the house where they lived. The mother of the child, 24 years old, was not at home at the time of the crime, and it was she who called the firemen. The girl was already unconscious and nothing could be done to save her. The man had neck and wrist injuries.
Neighbors report that the elderly man has become sadder and quieter of late.
The killer was taken to the Santa Maria hospital in Lisbon, where he remains hospitalized.
