About 200 countries will meet from this Sunday until next November 18 in the 27th edition of the climate summit, in a context that this year is “complicated”, and with new challenges to face.

Representatives of governments, institutions, the private sector and civil society from around 200 countries they will meet from this Sunday November 6 until next day 18 in Egypt in a difficult international diplomatic context with the challenge of seeking to reestablish trust in order to form a common front with which to fight against the global challenge of climate change.
The town of Sharm-El Sheik (Egypt) will host these two weeks the XXVII Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP27)the XVII session of the Conference of the Parties serving as the Meeting of the Parties to the Montreal Protocol (COP-MOP17) and the fourth session of the Conference of the Parties to the Paris Agreement (CMA4)as well as the sessions of 57 subsidiary bodies and an extensive agenda of parallel events organized by institutions, governments, multilateral organizations, companies, NGOs and civil society with a growing participation of youth and children.
After today’s start, on November 7 and 8, world leaders, heads of state and government, including the Spanish president Pedro Sanchezwill kick off with a high-level event to kick-start two weeks of negotiations, which this year will focus on making progress on mitigation, adaptation, loss and damage among other subjects.
In addition, in the first two days different countries will present thematic initiatives on specific issues such as the one that Spain and Senegal will defend jointly in the fight against desertification. This model of proposals gained strength at the previous Climate Summit, the COP26 held in Glasgow (United Kingdom) to promote the implementation of mitigation and adaptation measures in different sectors.

The motto of COP27, ‘Together for implementation’seeks to unite international action in a context in which the Minister for the Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenge, Teresa Ribera, admitted that it will be the summit “of trust” since it will be “complicated” by the difficulty of “a very good part of the world to maintain confidence” in solutions to climate change.
The COP26 held last November ended with the Glasgow Climate Pactwhich seeks to promote action against global warming in a multilateral manner and directed at all sectors to guarantee compliance with not exceeding the increase in global warming by the end of the century. 1.5ºCresponding to the urgent adaptation needs of the most vulnerable communities and to channel financing for adaptation in developing countries.
The appointment is part of an international context marked by the exit of the pandemic and with Russia’s invasion of Ukraine that has caused a global energy and food crisis that could influence climate negotiations.
