The last voting centers in the United States in the western part of Alaska have closed at 06:00 GMT (07:00, in Euskal Herria). The provisional results suggest that in the end there will not be “the red wave” (a clear victory for the Republican Party) that Trump predicted.

With the closing of the last voting centers (Alaska and Hawaii, in the west of the country) at 06:00 GMT (07:00 in the Basque Country), the United States (USA) ends the midterm elections with many unknowns yet to be resolved. The vote count advances and the first results point to a victory for the Republicans in the House of Representatives (Congress) and greater uncertainty in the Senatewhere the number of Democratic and Republican representatives is practically equal.
In fact, prominent members of the Republican Party has admitted that the provisional results do not meet the high expectations envisaged. “Definitely not (there will be) a Republican wave, that is very clear,” conservative senator Lindsey Graham said on NBC. The red color identifies the Republicans, while the blue is the Democratic Party.
Both the polls and history were on the side of the conservatives, since it is usual in the US for the opposition party to the president to make great gains in the mid-term elections, and although victory could still go to the Republican side , in no case will it be by an overwhelming margin.
With voting well under way in most states across the country, Republicans had made sure 186 seats in the House of Representatives and Democrats, 150, both short of the 218 majority needed to control the House.
With the data available to date, the Conservatives would have managed to snatch four seats from the Progressives, an amount that brings them closer to control of the House but is still not enough.
In the case of Senatethe scenario is even more open, since both parties are practically tied with 47 senators for the Democratic Party and 46 for the Republican, with seven seats still up for grabs, some of them in key states such as Georgia, Nevada and Wisconsin.
