Britain’s sanctions on Russia have resulted in a freeze of more than £18bn (€20,600m), the British government said this Thursday.
The Office of Financial Sanctions Enforcement (OFSI) estimates that the total amount of frozen Russian assets is £18,390m.
So far, the UK has imposed financial sanctions on more than 1,200 individuals, more than 120 organizations, including 19 Russian banks and more than 120 oligarchs, which, according to London, undermines Russia’s military potential.
The British executive has also banned the export of goods and services, which affects the repair and production of weapons.
“Vital semiconductors are now being taken out of refrigerators, and Soviet-era equipment is being sent to the front line,” the Finance Ministry said in a statement.
International sanctions should help reduce gross domestic product (GDP) by 6.2% in 2022 and 2.3% in 2023, he adds, as a result of a sharp drop in exports and imports and the immobilization of 60% of oil reserves. .
“Today’s report shows the scale of the UK’s sanctions,” said Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs Anne-Marie Trevelyan, vowing to continue strengthening sanctions “to put maximum economic pressure on the Russian regime until Ukraine wins.”
On February 24, Russia launched a military offensive in Ukraine that was generally condemned by the international community, which responded by sending weapons to Ukraine and imposing political and economic sanctions against Russia.
The war has already forced more than 13 million people to flee – more than six million internally displaced people and more than 7.8 million – to European countries, according to the latest UN figures.
The UN has presented 6,490 civilian deaths and 9,972 wounded as confirmed since the start of the war, emphasizing that these figures are much lower than the real ones.
