The state funeral for the late Queen Elizabeth II will be on September 19 at 11:00 local time (10:00 GMT) at Westminster Abbey in London, Buckingham Palace has announced.
Carlos III has approved this Saturday within the framework of a series of orders issued after his formal proclamation as the new King of England that the day of Elizabeth II’s funeral be declared a National festive in the United Kingdom.
The presence of important world leaders, including the president of the United States, Joe Biden, and representatives of royal houses are expected at the funeral.
The president of the Access Council that has proclaimed Carlos III king, Penny Mordaunthas pointed out that one of the proclamations “designate the day of Elizabeth II’s state funeral as a national holiday in England, Wales, Northern Ireland and Scotland”, to which Carlos III has responded with an “approved”.
Buckingham Palace said on Friday that royal mourning will last up to seven days after the funeral of Elizabeth II.
The hitherto Prince of Wales automatically ascended the throne on Thursday after the death of his mother, Elizabeth II, at the age of 96, so the act of proclamation was purely ceremonial.
