The new king of the United Kingdom, who will be formally crowned this Saturday, has offered his first message to the nation after the death of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II.

King Charles III of the United Kingdom said this Friday, in his first speech to the country after assuming the head of state, that he renews the “promise of service throughout his life” that his mother, the late Elizabeth II, fulfilled in his 70-year reign. “I want to honor the memory of my mother,” he added.
The king has dedicated an emotional tribute to his mother: “Mum, as you begin your long journey to join my dear dad, I want to say thank you for your love for our family and the family of nations.”
Carlos III has highlighted that Isabel II had “a life well lived” and, with “pain” for the loss and “gratitude” for the dedication of his mother during seven decades of reign, has renewed the commitment for life that she assumed to ascend the throne.
The new monarch has remembered his mother as an “inspiration” and an “example” both for the family and for the citizenry as a whole, in a historic first speech to the nation in which he spoke next to a framed photograph of Elizabeth II.
“For as long as God keeps me alive”
Carlos III has emphasized that the world has changed in 70 years, from the post-war years to the present, but has advocated keeping values constant and has pointed out that “the duties of the monarchy also continue”, now with him at the helm.
The new king has assumed that he has a position for life — “for as long as God keeps me alive” — and for which his life is going to change radically. He has had words of affection for his “dear” wife, the queen consort Camilaand thanked him for his loyalty: “I know he will be up to the new demands”.
He has also alluded to his eldest son, Prince Williamfirst in the line of succession to the throne, and has formally confirmed the transfer of the dukedom of cornwall. The heir will also be Prince of Walesjust as your father has decreed in this speech.
In his message, Carlos III has also alluded to Guillermo’s wife, Katherineand has underlined his “love” for his young son, Enriqueand for his wife, Meghan Markle.
