China said on Monday it had deployed fighter jets with “live ammunition” and the aircraft carrier Shandong to carry out “practice attacks” on targets in Taiwan after surrounding the area with dozens of aircraft and warships.
“Several groups of H-6K fighters with live ammunition carried out several simulated attacks on key targets on the island of Taiwan,” the Chinese People’s Liberation Army’s Eastern Theater Command said, adding that the Shandong also “participated in the exercises.”
The Chinese army sent dozens of fighter jets and 11 warships to Taiwan after the island’s leader Tsai Ing-wen met with Speaker of the US House of Representatives Kevin McCarthy, the Taiwan Defense Ministry said this morning.
