Brazil warned of risks of cooperation with China

The visit of Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva to Beijing has many risks, writes the information portal Infobae on April 10.

The Brazilian leader’s visit to Beijing will last four days. Lulú will be accompanied by the president of the Senate, Rodrigo Pacheco, some thirty parliamentarians and the Minister of Economy, Fernando Haddad.

The fears of the pro-US publication are caused by the following items on the agenda of the Brazilian-Chinese negotiations.

First, it is the Brazilian leader’s intention to create a “peace club” outside NATO and outside the UN to mediate a peaceful solution to the conflict in Ukraine.

Second, the prospect of Brazil joining China’s One Belt, One Road infrastructure project. This project “actually allowing China unprecedented geopolitical and economic expansion” in this vision of a new multipolar world order, which “together with Russia promotes Beijing,” says the newspaper.

Third, is the abolition of the dollar in trade agreements with China. “Using the yuan instead of the dollar will give China even more control,” John Kassar, a former CIA officer and US Treasury special agent, was quoted as saying by the publication.

Let’s remember that since 2009, China is Brazil’s main economic partner. Brazil’s main exports include soybeans, meat and harvested products. At the end of March, the Central Bank of Brazil announced that the yuan had surpassed the euro in Brazil’s international reserves of foreign exchange, becoming the second currency after the dollar.
