At least 6 people dead and 53 injured by a powerful explosion on a central avenue in Istanbul

The Turkish president has advanced that the first information points to a terrorist attack. Following the anti-terrorist protocol, a court in Istanbul has already declared an “information blackout”, while the Prosecutor’s Office investigates what happened.

At least six people have died and 53 have been injured by a powerful explosion of unidentified origin that occurred this Sunday on the busy Istiklal avenue in the capital of Turkey, istanbulaccording to the latest balance provided by the country’s president, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who suspicion of a “terrorist attack”although there is no official verification yet.

“Sadly, the death toll rose to 6 and the number of injured to 53 in the explosion that took place today in IstiklalErdogan declared in his first appearance after the explosion.

In it, the president has declared his suspicions about the nature of the detonation, which occurred around 4:20 p.m. this afternoon.

“Perhaps I am wrong, but the first events, added to the first information given to me by the governor of Istanbul, Ali Yerlikaya, indicate that this smells like terrorism“, Erdogan declared, before describing what happened as “a vile attack”.

Meanwhile, a court in Istanbul has already declared an “information blackout”following the anti-terrorist protocol in Turkey, while the Istanbul Attorney General’s Office has already announced the start of an investigation.

Firefighters, police and medical teams have already moved to the area, as emergency sources have confirmed to the Bursa Haberdar portal, cordoned off by the security forces to facilitate care for the victims.

Istiklal Avenue, or Independence Avenueis one of the busiest streets in the city and is home to numerous businesses.
