Trade unions ask the President of the Republic not to hold a competition for teachers

Nine teachers’ unions announced this Saturday that they had appealed to the President of the Republic to keep the diploma of the teachers’ competition from being made public and to return it to the government to resume negotiations.

“Trade union organizations of teachers yesterday appealed [sexta-feira] The President of the Republic will not make the competition diploma public, returning it to the government to return to the negotiating table and correct the harmful aspects of teachers and schools that prevented a negotiated agreement,” they cite.

In a press release, the nine trade union organizations justify that “the failure to adopt this decree-law will not make it impossible to tie up 10,700 contract teachers.”

“Nor the elimination of pay discrimination for those who remain on fixed-term contracts,” they add, recalling that “there are 2,000 teachers who will be bound by the brake rule.”

“For the remaining 8,700, it is sufficient to agree on a diploma that lays down the rules for an extraordinary job competition and contains a provision regarding wages, thus complying, by correct transfer, with Community Directive 70/CE/1999,” they argue.

The trade unions – ASPL, FENPROF, FNE, PRO-ORDEM, SEPLEU, SINAPE, SINDEP, SIPE and SPLIU – are “ready to move forward in this negotiation process”.

As for teaching careers, these trade unions write that their “worst expectations” were confirmed at a technical meeting held on 13 April.

“It was clear that not a single day of the missing would be recovered, the so-called layoffs exclude more than cover teachers, and existing career asymmetries are not corrected,” they say.

In this sense, they warn that a new round of negotiations is scheduled for the 20th, and “reaffirm the importance of the nationwide strike in the districts, which will begin next Monday, the 17th, in the Porto region.”

“The appeal to teachers and educators lies in the fact that by noon all pedagogical activities in schools, teaching and extracurricular activities cease. This strike has no minimum service, and if there are others, they will be accommodated in the period before the start of the strike. “, they address.

Press release signed by Associação Sindical de Professores Licenciados (ASPL); National Federation of Teachers (FENPROF); National Federation of Education (FNE); Pro-Ordem dos Professors and National and Democratic Union of Teachers (SINDEP).

In addition, the National Union of Educational Professionals (SINAPE); the Independent Union of Teachers and Educators (SIPE) and the National Union of Teachers Licensed by Polytechnics and Universities (SPLIU).
