US, UK call for immediate end to violence in Sudan

U.S. and British diplomats gathered in Japan for a G7 meeting on Monday called for an immediate end to violence in Sudan, where clashes between paramilitaries and the army have killed about 100 people.

“There is a strong general concern about the fighting, the violence in Sudan, the threat it poses to the civilian population, the Sudanese people, and perhaps even the region,” US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said after meeting with the British Foreign Secretary. James Cleverly.

At least 97 civilians have been killed in Sudan, where gunfire and explosions continued in Khartoum on Monday morning, on the third day of fighting between paramilitary groups and the country’s army.
