About a dozen activists have been at the entrance to the Faculty of Lisbon University of Lisbon since 6:00 am to protest against the end of fossil fuel use, a source from the End of the Fossil Occupy movement told Lusa news agency.
Speaking to Lusa around 8:15 am, activist Leonor Silva said that “the faculty is open, but activists are protesting at the main entrance.”
“We are protesting the irresponsibility of the teaching staff in relation to the issue of the climate crisis,” he said.
Over the past three days, activists have closed the Antonio Arroyo and Liceu Camões Art School in Lisbon.
Young activists have been protesting against climate change in schools in Lisbon and the Algarve since April 26, occupying the Faculty of Literature, the Faculty of Psychology and the Higher Technical Institute, the Second School of Dona Luisa de Gusmão in Lisbon and the Escola Secundária Tomás Cabreira in Faro.
Demanding an end to fossil fuels by 2030 and a transition to 100% renewable and affordable electricity by 2025, young people say they will only stop when 1,500 people want to take part in the anti-natural gas action scheduled for the 13th at the port Sines.
This Friday, the movement said in a statement that the students had already collected one hundred and a half signatures.
