The German army will receive 50 new Puma infantry fighting vehicles, according to a framework agreement signed today, which provides for the acquisition of up to 229 units.
The contract was signed today at the Federal Department of Equipment, Information Technology and Service Support of the German Army with PSM Projekt System & Management, a joint venture between the German weapons consortia Krauss-Maffei Wegmann (KMW) and Rheinmetall.
“With Puma infantry fighting vehicles, we are strengthening the capabilities of the German army,” emphasizes the person responsible for the project, according to a statement released by this federal agency.
The same source indicates that motorized riflemen will have a system that combines protection, efficiency and mobility.
The framework agreement, signed following Tuesday’s approval by the Bundestag Budget Committee, provides for the acquisition of up to 229 Puma aircraft, of which 50 are on order.
The contract also includes spare parts kits and eight flight phase simulators for the Multipurpose Lightweight Guided Missile System (MELLS), the statement said.
These vehicles include the integration of high-definition camera systems with day and night vision capabilities, the MELLS guided missile system, and the integration of digital radio equipment.
The delivery of all vehicles is scheduled for late 2025 – early 2027.
