Euphoria in Coimbra by Coldplay warmed up a wild windy morning

The night under the open sky is long gone, the wind that has been blowing in Coimbra all morning has also died down, and the expectations of those who want to be in front of the Coldplay stage this Wednesday, for the first of four concerts, are high. .

High as a sky full of stars, a pastoral expression that the British band immortalized in one of their hits.

At the various exterior doors of the Estádio Cidade de Coimbra, the usual rush before important events was remarkable this Wednesday morning, with trucks moving in and out, security in final preparations, and a host of Coldplay fans heading to Portugal later that night for a new leg of the tour, during of which more than 200,000 people will arrive in the city of Mondego before Sunday.

From Felgueiras, a group of three student friends from Porto, Ines, Ana and Luis arrived early in Coimbra. After attending the band’s concert in Paris in 2017, this time they got together to enjoy “a show different from all the others”.

“We missed classes and left Porto at 6:30 in the morning. This is an incredible show. There aren’t many bands like that,” they told Luce, peering inside the stadium through the marathon gate, which serves as the entrance for the trucks that help prepare for the final.

Ainoa came from far away, from Vigo, Spain. Alone, but resolute, the Spaniard woke up at 4 am, set off half an hour later and admitted that she was expecting “a memorable concert by an incredible band.”

“It’s great, fantastic music. And the environment? Incredible environment with thousands of colorful bracelets. Everything is ready for a brutal night,” she said, looking for the number of doors that would later lead her to paradise – – “Paradise” is one of the hits, under which he wants to dance during the concert, as if someone is conquering the world.

British band Coldplay kick off a four-show tour in Coimbra this Wednesday.

They return to the stage on Thursday, take a break on Friday and play again at the Estádio Cidade de Coimbra on Saturday and Sunday. Doors open at 17:00 and concerts are expected to start around 18:45 and end at 00:00.

Bernardo, from Coimbra, who was sleeping outside the stadium with his sister – and “another group of 30 people who continued to appear in the meantime” – remembered the night but already forgot it, with strong winds, with a lot of sand from the works, through the air , annoyingly, and said that he was expecting “a concert not to be missed.”

“I have wanted to see this for a long time, and we finally did it. From what I’ve seen, this is a band that plays great shows. We want to get in first to try to stay ahead.”

Further south, from Lisbon, another group in another part of the stadium was looking for coffee for breakfast.

“The four of us came and we also want to reserve a place. But first, breakfast,” said Marta, who, along with Pedro, Marco and Simao, slept next to the stadium.

The night, in the cold, with the “twisted and wild” wind, as in “Viva La Vida”, another hit from the English group, did not frighten this group of friends who are preparing for “a night that will never be forgotten.” .

“We might even stay on Queima,” said Das Fitash, who starts on Thursday.

In addition to four Coldplay shows, Coimbra hosted the start of Rally Portugal last week and is located in the lobby of Queima das Fitas, which starts on Thursday and lasts a week.
